For those that remember Alfie and Millie, our bonded pair, we have a little update!

Alfie and I are getting along just fine, though Millie’s having a bit of trouble with her back leg. The vet’s given her some painkillers, and I’m trying my best to keep her rested, though that’s easier said than done! Earlier this summer, we had quite the adventure. We were out on the sea bank when she suddenly stopped, holding her head and neck at an odd angle, and wouldn’t walk. There I was, carrying her a whole mile back to the van—good thing she’s 15 kgs and not like Alfie at 21 kgs, or I’d still be there!

When we got to the vet, we discovered it was just a piece of grass stalk lodged in her ear. Thank goodness it was nothing serious! After that, we decided to enjoy a relaxing summer and headed up to Scotland, exploring the SWC 300 route around Dumfries and Galloway. We spent a week in the Galloway Forest near Loch Doon, walking along the forest tracks where the timber lorries pass. We did get lost once, with no signal and a dying phone battery, but after retracing our steps, we spotted a familiar landmark and made it back to the van—tired, hungry, and grateful for our little adventure.

We also visited the Lockerbie memorial, which was a touching experience, and saw so much wildlife along the way. We had encounters with roe deer, muntjac, Chinese water deer, red deer, red squirrels, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, rabbits, and hares. Millie, of course, had her “favorites”: partridge, pheasant, and pigeons. She seems to have an instinct for finding them!

Millie is as calm as ever around other dogs and people, while Alfie’s still a bit reactive. He’s fine with people, but I keep him on a tight lead around other dogs just to be safe. Both of them bring me such joy in their own unique ways, and I couldn’t be happier.

All in all, it’s been a summer full of memorable moments. Here’s hoping for many more happy adventures to come!

Can you offer one of our dogs a home?

We are looking for foster families and adoptive families.

A home check will be required, along with an adoption donation of between £200 to £500 which helps to contribute to kennel fees, vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neutering, flea/worming treatment and other veterinary costs. This adoption fee will contribute to the care of all our dogs.  Your case handler will advise the cost of each dog

Please have a read of our adoption process  so you can prepare for how we will work with you and the possible dog. We also offer help and support for you both in the future with our behaviourists.
